Bonding on roof surfaces

Bonding insulation boards on flat roof systems

Durable bonding of insulation boards on roofing substrates

Insulation boards are commonly bonded to the underlying roofing substrates using sprayable and pourable PU roofing adhesives. This type of fixing method provides an efficient, economical and durable bonding solution. With Soudatherm Roof, Soudal has developed a comprehensive and well-balanced range of adhesives for contemporary flat-roof applications through close consultation with roofers and architects.

Why use Soudatherm Roof Adhesives?

Advantages compared with mechanical fixing:
• Lower cost of installing insulation on all flat surfaces, especially on concrete
• Costs of bonding remain the same for all thicknesses of the insulation materials
• No penetration into the existing roof construction, therefore no damage
• No thermal bridges or condensation
• Invisible bond
• Noiseless installation
• Ergonomic installation

Advantages compared with fixing with cold-applied bitumen adhesives:
• Much faster drying of the adhesives
• Much lower weight of the adhesives
• Simple work logistics on the roof
• Solvent free – no problems with compatibility and tolerance
• No smell

Advantages compared with hot-applied bitumen adhesives:
• No fire hazards during application
• Much lower weight of the adhesives
• Simple work logistics on the roof - no heat source required
• No smell

SOUDATHERM ROOF 330

FOAM ADHESIVE FOR ROOF INSULATION MATERIALS

Single-component moisture curing Polyurethane based foam adhesive for durable, clean, economic and permanently wind-suction resistant bonding of insulation panels on flat roof systems.

Soudatherm Roof 330

Characteristics

• Up to 120m² application area per canister
• Timesaving; up to 50% compared with traditional liquid PU Adhesive
• Ideally suited for large scale projects
• Very fast drying; 45 minutes after installation work on the site can be resumed
• Very economic in use, precise application without waste
• Does not slump or drip, therefore also suitable for vertical bonding (e.g. upstands)
• Bridges gaps and evens surfaces optimally
• Can also be used to fill gaps and joints (heat transmission 0.036 W/(m/K))
• Much less weight, much less space required
• Highly resistant to wind suction – system tested by third parties (WTCB/CSTC – Belgium / BDA – the Netherlands)
• Remains flexible, does not become brittle
• Free of solvents, does not attack Polystyrene
• Open time ca 8 minutes (depending on temperature and humidity on the building site)
• Very low emission – EC1 R PLUS

* Vapour barriers and insulation panels must be approved for adhered roofing systems by the manufacturer. Always consult the technical data sheet and installation instructions for the materials you wish to bond.

Do not apply to polyethene (PE) vapour barriers, nor to other vapour barriers or insulation with a polyethene or PFTE protective film. These are only suitable for mechanical attachment methods.

Not suitable for bonding to existing synthetic or EPDM roofing. In these cases, the old roofing membrane must be removed before bonding the additional insulation.
