Sealing of natural stone

Sealing of natural stone

You seal around your natural stone window sills or terrace tiles with a sealant that leaves no stains. With acid-free elastic silicones modified for natural stone, you seal joints around Belgian limestone, marble or granite without any worries.

Instructions

1. Make the wall and your window sill or terrace tile clean and dry

Remove all dirt, grease and dust. Use a suitable degreaser to degrease the tiles or sills. First brush the wall clean to remove any dust and dirt. Allow to dry thoroughly.

2. Tape off the joint edges

Use good masking tape to neatly tape off the sealant edges. You will then work nice and straight. Make sure that the joint both on the wall and on the window sill or terrace tile is between 5 and 10 millimetres wide.

3. Open the cartridge

Cut the top off the cartridge with a safety cutter. Turn the nozzle on top and cut the end slanted. You get the best result if the opening in the nozzle is just as large as the joint you want to fill. Put the cartridge in the caulking gun and squeeze the handle until sealant appears.

4. Start filling

Place the nozzle where you want to start filling. Squeeze the handle and move the caulking gun over the joint in a smooth movement. Apply sufficient sealant everywhere to ensure that the product adheres well.

5. Smooth and remove the tape

Wet your finger in the soap solution or Joint Finish. Smooth the joint and immediately remove the masking tape. Smooth carefully again to smooth away any protruding edges.

6. Rinse with clean water

Use the plant sprayer with clean water to remove soap residues. You then prevent soap stains on the natural stone.

Tip:

  • The sealant does not adhere to damp surfaces. So do not seal if it has just rained or when thunderstorms are forecast.
  • Make sure that you do not make the surface wet with the soap solution or finisher, or the sealant will not adhere well. So only wet your finger or putty spreader.
  • Is the sun shining strongly or is it very hot? Remove the soap solution or the finisher quickly so it cannot burn in and cause permanent stains.
  • You can also use Soudal Natural Stone sealant inside. If you have natural stone on the floor or against the wall in your bathroom, use this product to seal joints on your toilet, bathroom furnishing or bath.

The following is also useful:

  • Is the surface you want to seal very porous? Treat it with Soudal Primer 150.
  • Clean your tools immediately after use with white spirit, turpentine or Soudal Surface Cleaner.
