Sealing of BBQ, fireplace, stove

Sealing of BBQ, fireplace, stove

It can get very hot around your oven, hearth or stove. It is therefore best to use a heat-resistant joint filler.

Instructions

1. Clean and dry the surface

Remove all dirt, dust and grease. Degrease non-porous surfaces with an alcohol-based product or petrol. Thoroughly dry the surface.

2. Tape off the joint edges

Use good masking tape to neatly tape off the sealant edges so the joint will be nice and straight. Make sure that the joint is between 5 and 15 millimetres wide.

3. Open the cartridge

Cut the top off the cartridge with a safety cutter. Turn the nozzle on top and cut the end slanted. You get the best result if the opening in the nozzle is just as large as the joint you want to fill. Put the cartridge in the caulking gun and squeeze the handle until sealant appears.

4. Start filling

Place the nozzle where you want to start filling. Squeeze the handle and move the caulking gun over the joint in a smooth movement. Apply sufficient sealant everywhere to ensure that the product adheres well.

5. Smooth and remove the tape

Smooth with a filling knife for a tidy result.

Tip:

  • Are you going to use the hearth, stove or oven for the first time after fitting it? Start the appliance gently. Then the sealant can settle, and you avoid cracks or tears caused by a sudden temperature difference.
  • Moisten any porous surface before you apply Soudal High Temperature sealant so the product can adhere better to the surface.

The following is also useful:

  • Soudal Surface Cleaner is a solvent cleaner to quickly remove grease and dust from surfaces. Test beforehand in a concealed place to check that no stains or colour differences are left.
