Filling up door frames
You have converted your attic and turned it into two separate bedrooms. You obviously want to be able to close them off with a door. You can read how to easily fit an interior door yourself in the following steps.
Instructions
1. Make the door opening to size
Carefully measure the size of the door opening. The total opening must be 2.5 to 5 centimetres higher and 5 to 10 centimetres wider than the door leaf. Trim the door opening if needed so the size fits.
2. Make the door post
Measure the width of the wall and saw the door post to size. The door post slats must be just as wide as the wall. Lay the door post on the ground and fasten the two vertical slats to the horizontal slat. Make sure that the slats are 100% square to each other. Remove dust and grease from the surface to fit the door post.
3. Place the door post
Place the door post in the door opening. Temporarily fix with the wooden wedges. Use adjusting slats to be certain that the door frame is firmly in place.
4. Fix the door on the door post
Fix the door leaf on the door post with the hinges. Adjust the hinges so the door closes snugly. You can find more information in the instructions with the door kit.
5. Fill the opening between door post and wall
Put on protective gloves and safety glasses. Activate the can by turning the inside of the black ring 5x to the right. Vigorously shake the spray can of Soudal Express Assembly Foam 2 K for 20 seconds and screw the applicator hose on it. Hold the spray can upside down and spray Soudal Express Assembly Foam 2K in the opening between the wall and the door post. The foam must have a uniform green colour. Apply the foam in 6 zones approximately 20-30 cm long, 3 zones to the left and 3 zones to the right. Fill the opening approximately 50%. The foam will expand and fill the rest of the opening. After 20 minutes the foam can be cut off.
6. Touch up the door
Adhere the door posts on the door frame with Soudal T-Rex Direct Vast. Apply adhesive in regular dots over the entire length of the door post. Make sure that you spray sufficient adhesive on the corners and edges. Then seal the joint between the door post and the wall with Fix-ALL Flexi. Finally fit the lock and the door handle.
Tip:
- Remove non-cured PU foam with Soudal PU Foam Cleaner.
- Have you sprayed too much PU foam in the seam or gap at once? Allow it to harden and cut off the excess foam with a cutter.
- Make sure you work in a well-ventilated space so the propellants can escape. The following is also useful:
- You can easily fix the slats of the door post square to each other with Soudal T-Rex Direct Vast.
