Draft proof sealing of cracks
Joints around windows, doors or window sills sometimes let a draught in. A good anti-draught sealant prevents cold air from entering your home.
Instructions
1. Make the walls clean and dry
Remove dirt, dust and grease with degreaser and a clean cloth. Dry the surface.
2. Tape off the joint edges
Use good masking tape to neatly tape off the sealant edges. You will then work nice and straight. Make sure that the joint on each surface is at least 5 millimetres wide.
3. Open the cartridge
Cut the top off the cartridge with a safety cutter. Turn the nozzle on top and cut the end slanted. You get the best result if the opening in the nozzle is just as large as the joint you want to fill. Put the cartridge in the caulking gun and squeeze the handle until the sealant appears.
4. Start filling
Place the nozzle where you want to start filling. Squeeze the handle and move the caulking gun over the joint in a smooth movement. Apply sufficient sealant everywhere to ensure that the product adheres well. You get the best result if you work towards your body.
5. Smooth and remove the tape
Smooth the joint with the filling knife and immediately remove the masking tape. Smooth carefully again to smooth away any protruding edges. You can also smooth the joint with your finger. Wet your finger in clean water to do this. Smooth the joint and immediately remove the masking tape. When the sealant has dried you can overpaint it.
