Fireproof sealing

Fire Rated Gap Filling

Passive fire protection systems require a fire rated expanding foam to fill large gaps during the installation of fire-retardant window and door frames.

Soudafoam FR HY is our high-yield fire rated expanding foam. With rapid curing and excellent thermal and acoustic insulation properties, the one-component PU foam is fire-resistant for up to 4 hours depending on the joint configuration.

Step by Step Guide

1. Prepare the doorpost and the wall

Remove dust and grease from the surfaces. Moisten the wall and the doorpost with a spray bottle filled with water.

2. Shake the spray can vigorously

Put on protective gloves and safety glasses. Shake the spray can for 20 seconds. Open the valve of the Genius Gun and raise the applicator straw.

3. Fill the opening between the doorpost and wall

Hold the spray can upside down and spray Soudafoam FR HY in the opening between the wall and the doorpost. Fill the opening approximately 1/3, the foam will further expand to fill the remaining space. Make sure to shake the can regularly if you are filling a deep or large space, ensuring you moisten the area between layers.

4. Leave to dry and remove excess

Leave the foam to dry for 1.5 to 2 hours. Cut off the foam where you have used too much.

Tip:

  • Non-cured PU foam can be removed with either acetone or Soudal PU Foam Cleaner.
  • If you have sprayed too much in one go, allow the PU foam to harden, then remove excess using a retractable knife.
  • Hardened foam can only be removed mechanically. On non-porous surfaces, you can first make the foam a little softer with Soudal PU Remover.
  • Always work in a well-ventilated space. If this is not possible make sure to wear an appropriate gas mask while working.
  • A PU foam can be easily applied with one hand thanks to the Genius Gun applicator. You can also control the amount you use much easier and then re-use the can for up to 6 weeks. That is handy if you only want to do a few small jobs around the home.
